Talk Event at “morimori” in Hong Kong

We’re excited to share that we’ll be hosting a talk event at morimori, the Hong Kong store run by our friend Donald, which began carrying Yamatomichi products this spring. The event will take place on Saturday, May 10th, 2025.

Junki Nakamura from the Yamatomichi team will be giving a talk on the Ultralight Mindset, shaped by his experience hiking a total of 9,250km across the U.S. After the talk, we’ll have a casual get-together—a great chance to connect and chat with local hikers.

A Message from Junki Nakamura

When I set out on my first long-distance trail—the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT)—in 2018, I had no idea what I was getting into. I hadn’t yet discovered ultralight hiking. I was hauling 25kg of gear in an overloaded 60L pack, and with every step, the straps carved into my shoulders, leaving bruises as reminders of the weight I carried—both physically and mentally.

But step by step, mile by mile, I began shedding what I didn’t need. I refined my gear. I learned to listen to my body, to the trail, to the silence. By the time I reached the Canadian border, my pack was down to 16kg. And in that moment, I knew: Next time, I want to walk free. I want to walk light.

After joining Yamatomichi, that desire became a mission. I immersed myself in the philosophy and practicality of ultralight hiking. In 2023, I set out on the 5,000km Continental Divide Trail (CDT), carrying not just gear, but everything I’d learned along the way.

Day after day, as I moved through vast wilderness, I came to a quiet realization: lightening my pack was also lightening my mind. I wasn’t just carrying less—I was living more.

Now, with 9,250km of long trails behind me, I want to share what I’ve learned—not just about gear, but about freedom, simplicity, and the ultralight mindset. I look forward to meeting the hikers of Hong Kong and exploring what it truly means to walk light.
