Report on Kay from Samplus, Taipei after working at Yamatomichi in Kamakura and Kyoto

For the Chinese version of the report, go to the Japanese article.

Samplus recently had one of its staff members, Kay, participate in a training program at Yamatomichi in Kamakura and Kyoto from Wednesday, September 4 to Wednesday, September 18.

During the program, Kay experienced a variety of roles, including customer service on the sales floor and work at the Daibutsu office. Kay was able to closely interact with visiting hikers and Yamatomichi staff, engaging in discussions about hiking trends in both Japan and Taiwan, Yamatomichi products, and aspects of the job beyond sales. Through these interactions, we gained a deeper understanding of Taiwan and developed an even greater appreciation for our partner, Samplus.

We plan to continue this exchange program with our direct store in the future. For those who have visited Samplus or are interested in the mountains of Taiwan, please stay tuned for more updates.

From Kay, staff member at Taipei Samplus

I am very pleased to have had the opportunity to interact directly with Japanese customers through this exchange program. I was also able to discuss with the Japanese store staff my experiences with Yamatomichi products, including my favorite features and some aspects I found less favorable. Additionally, we talked about the differences between the needs of Taiwanese and Japanese customers, which made for a very interesting experience.

From Yuko Tsunoda, Yamatomichi Kamakura Staff

During our discussions with Kay, we could sense their deep understanding of the products and their commitment to customer-focused service, which reminded us of its importance. Kay’s explanations in English were also very clear, which provided valuable insights for serving international customers. They actively communicated with Japanese customers as well, and their eagerness to connect was impressive. Although it was a short time, walking together on the Kamakura trails helped us gain a better understanding of each other. Taiwan and Samplus now feel even closer to us.

Thank you, Kay. We look forward to seeing you again at the Yamamichi Festival!

From Ayana Nagai, Yamatomichi Kyoto Staff

I was amazed by Kay’s deep understanding and extensive knowledge of our products. By sharing our customer service approaches and product experiences, we received valuable advice from a different perspective, which provided a great opportunity for the Kyoto staff to rethink our products. Since Kyoto attracts many customers from Chinese-speaking regions, thanks to Kay, we gained insights into what kinds of products they are looking for and the customer demographics that visit us. Kay actively engaged with Japanese customers without hesitation, and despite the challenges of being in a foreign country, they maintained a cheerful smile throughout—such a positive and inspiring presence!
